#1 WANDERLUST

"When the dust hits my shoes

I got the urge to move
'Cause I'm a road runner baby,
Gotta keep on, keepin' on."

- Junior Walker, "I'm a Roadrunner, Baby".

Long, long ago, in what now seems like a distant galaxy, a teenager got his first tastes of North American wilderness in New York's remote Adirondack Mountains. College reveries involved building a log cabin in the wilds of northern Ontario.  First job was punctuated by float plane fishing trips to farther north in Canada. When an obsession with birding took over, he took wildest trip of all - three weeks on Alaska's Attu Island.

Flash forward to the present.  The spirit never dies, the call of the wild never ceases and I still don't like any dust gathering on my shoes, because I am a roadrunner, baby.  And now, the best part - I have an equally crazy partner, Gale Donnelly, who not only shares my life but also our dreams.  And that includes hitting the road.

This year, we acquired a small recreational vehicle, named it "The Wandering Albatross", and made plans to travel all over North America.  It sounds like a Woody Guthrie song, but we wanted to hit every corner of the continent, from the gulf stream waters to the New York island, because this land was made for us.  Along the way, we want see a lot of birds, play a little golf in some very strange places, and listen to what the land is saying. Wish us luck, and here we go.

  4. This sounds like quite an adventure and one you'll never forget. Watch out for these grizzlies or be like Davy Crocket Sr... killed him a b'ar when he was only 68 (69?) We look forward to seeing you at our home in August. Be safe and have a wonderful time.
